Riverside Camp

In the holidays me and my brother Semaia got invited to a camp, it was for a club at Pt England school called Riverside club,I was so excited when my aunties showed up to pick us up but at the same time I was a bit nervous but my aunties told me that I would be all right.

When we got to Pt England school me and Semaia went and sat down with all the other the kids on the car park and this girl named Paulitia was calling out every ones names, when it came to my name I just raised my hand and said quietly “here” everyone turned back and looked at me because hardly anyone knew me then my friends Sesalena and Sesalia arrived they saw me then they came and sat down next to me.

When all the names were called out the Prince- able, Russel, spoke to us then said “everybody please put all your luggage in the back of Mr Clark’s car thank you.” Once everyone was sorted Russel asked all the year eights to go up the front, my brother was a year eight so he went up the front, next asked them all to pray for a fun and safe week.

Spike and Turner space ….adventure..continued...

After they found that their spaceship was gone they thought and thought and thought then Suzie saw something on the grass it was a note Suzie picked it up and red it to Spike and Turner it read
“Dear Spike,
I have borrowed your spaceship for a while. Here is a poem if you want it back: Come to my place if you dare, I might see you at the fair, meet Andy and he’ll give you some cotton candy, goodbye for now we’ll see you soon hugs and kisses from Andrew coo”
“who’s Andrew coo” Turner wondered
“ I don’t know” Spike said with a little giggle
“ Oh that Andrew” Spike said thinking out loud.

The next morning they went down to the fair and walked to the cotton candy stand and asked for Andy and he came out and gave Suzie their next clue it read:
“Here is another poem: It’s me again glad you came there’s a surprise for you I hope you come to the BBQ ask for me and I’ll be there I hope we’ll see each other in the future somewhere”.

Holiday Recount

Finally the girls from the Welsh family were here, Danielle and Cassie. Do you know why they were here? For the Kreative kids holiday program that my Aunty Lizzy ran at her house. When they got inside we started Kreative Kids with a song called ‘I Can Sing Of Your Love Forever’. Next we said a memory verse that goes like this “treat others the way you want to be treated’ Matthew ch7 v12.

After that Aunty Lizzy said who was going where “okay Malia and Talita are in the kitchen with me, Destiny is on the PlayStation, Danielle and Sally are on ukulele and the rest of you can use the art box, it has pens and pencils in it and activity books. Another thing to do is to prepare for the concert on Friday night, every one has to be in it...you can go now”.

When I got to the kitchen, Aunty Lizzy asked me and Talita what we wanted to make. She said we had to use the rest of the Weet-bix so I suggested weet-bix brownie. Next Aunty Lizy asked us which machine we wanted to use, microwave or oven. We both agreed on microwave so Aunty Lizzy got out the recipe to the microwave brownie and we started to make it.

First we put in a spoon of cocoa in a long bowl, then we put in some flour. When we had finished Aunty Lizzy put it into the microwave for 15 minutes. Next Aunty Lizzy said “lets cut up some pieces of fruit because I don't think brownie is enough and neither is just fruit and brownie”
“I know” I said
“do you have any biscuits Aunty Lizzy?” I asked
“yes I do” she answered “ great thinking Malia”.

Later when we had finished cutting up the fruit my sister Talita went to her PlayStation lesson so it was only me and Aunty Lizzy left. Once the brownie had finished cooking I cut it up and put it with the jam tarts. There was some brownie crumbs left so Danielle and I made brownie balls, they looked very yummy. Once everything was finished, Danielle called everyone to the table for morning tea so at once everyone came. When we had put everything on the table it was time to eat. While we were eating Aunty Lizzy called out who was going where next “Malia is on the PlayStation and Cassie and Ana are on ukuleles and the rest are on the activity box”.

Once I had finished eating I walked straight into the garage for my PlayStation lesson with my cousin Jack. First Jack asked me what game I wanted to play I said “I want to play ‘I Toy“ which is sort of like ‘Wii’ but there is a little camera and you take photos with it and things like that so I played that and then I wanted Jack to teach me another game called ‘Over The Hedge Bumper cars’. When I had finished my lesson on PlayStation the Mums called out for lunch. Now this was sort of like schoo,l so we had lunch boxes. When we had all finished our lunch my Mum called out “an hour of playing”
“yes” we all said secretly to ourselves.

After lunch time Odelle, Danielle and Cassie’s mum came and did scrap booking with us. Soon it was time for the girls to go home, so I went and said goodbye to Danielle and then it was the end of the day!

Celebration of Unity and coming together to learn in room 8

On a very rainy morning Room 8 started our class mass in our class room with Father and Mr Coakley as our special guests. We did not have morning tea break at the regular 10.30 time as there was going to be a school assembly before lunch and we wanted to have some relaxing time together as room 8 before the assembly started.

First of all we started with the introduction which Dorothy read so clearly that I heard every thing she said. After awhile a song called ‘Morning Has Broken’ started playing, this was our gathering song but...opps....the projector wasn't working so we had a whole heap of papers that had the words on it that we had to share. Father explain that now it was time for the liturgy of the word, Robbertana reading from the Act’s and so we got onto the second part of our class Mass. Next Emanuel and Nayan read the Gospel, and they did it like a conversation which cool!.

Father then spoke to us about the readings and the gift of the Holy Spirit as well as our place as learners. Now stage three of the mass took place and after the blessing the people that normally had Communion passed it around the circle. After that we had another song and we sung ‘Alleluia Alleluia’ (Guy Sebastian - Receive the Power music & Lyrics).

Well our mass ended, it was time to share fellowship before our school assembly. What a special experience.

What I Think About Learning Goals

It is clear to me that learning goals are great for learning. I think this because they give you a focus to your learning.

Learning goals are especially good for the things you are not so good at, for example I’m not so good at my times tables. My main goal is to work most of the time independently and I know this is important as it will improve my ability to develop as well as learn my timestables.

Many people also agree that learning goals are great for learning. Learning goals can be either big or small here is an example of a big one: To get an honours badge in year eight, that is very hard to achieve. Now here is an example of a small goal: Learn more things this year, that isn't that hard to do.

Imagine yourself in a position with no goals at all, with no goals then there would be nothing to work towards or nothing to work on and then you won’t learn much. Yes you would be a lost sole drifting.

Another reason why learning goals are good is that they give you a warm feeling and it shows you have ambition, something to work towards and that can be fun if you have a prize at the end. Guess what if it was a prize or something you really like, for example we have something called a ‘Marble jar’ at home and every time we do something wonderful we get a marble added and when we full it up we get to do something like get something or go somewhere special.

That is my opinion on learning goals.

How To Make A Kite

Here are the things you will need:

Materials
a piece of string, a piece of paper shaped like a hexagon, two sticks,
k
Equipment

a strip of sellotape and some colours.

Here are the instructions of how to make a kite:
1. Get the piece of paper and the two sticks, then sellotape two sticks onto the sides of the paper.
2. Next design or decorate the kite with the colours, colour on both sides.
3. Next attach the string to the kite with some more sellotape.
4. Take it out side to test it out.

And this how you make a kite.

Littering Poem

Littering is bad,
If you litter to much there will be no room for the plants to grow.
There will be no room for us to grow.
Littering is bad.

I was just walking to school one day when I spotted some litter,
A few bottles of Mountain Dew .
I asked myself “I wonder if someone will pick it up?“
But everyone just walked by ...do people care?
Littering is bad.

When I got to school I saw some more litter.
It was a potato fritter.
It makes me feel a little bitter.
Who can help?
.

Is Our Net Book a good learning tool?

Yes our net book a good learning tool as I know from what others in the class have told me it is benefiting them as well.

We do most of our reading, writing and some of our maths on our Net Book. It helps me lots and it is very useful and I am getting used to. It is clear that the net book is not a tool for playing games or anything like that. Many people agree our net book is for learning but we are allowed to play educational games like tux typing and tux maths.

Everyone uses computers in business and so by me learning with a netbook it is allowing me to build up my computer skills and allow me to experience the benefits when I go out into the work force.

That is my opinion on weather or not our netbook is a good learning tool.

Mothers Day...a special day!!!

“Shh” my Dad whispered back to us “ tip toe” he whispered again, today is a Sunday but not any Sunday today is mothers day! You’re probably wondering why my Dad and my brother and sisters are whispering and not talking so loud well I’ll explain it to you, on mothers day or fathers day we have a tradition that when it is either day we give them breakfast in bed, we carried on our journey down the hallway.

Finally we reached my mums room suddenly we started to sing “ Happy Mothers day to you happy mothers day to you”, I finally got in the door with the tray filled with her breakfast on it. Next Mum said “that she wouldn't eat all of the food” so she told “Ana to go and get her an other plate”, so Ana raced to the kitchen and got a plate from the cupboard and came back. When Mum had got the the plate she started scraping with her fork three pieces of bacon and three eggs onto the spear plate then she said “here is your breakfast”, “yes” Ana then said. We all of the children except for me ran to the kitchen . I wanted to stay and talk, when I had finished talking to mum I went to the kitchen to have some bacon and eggs but when I had reached the kitchen Dad had just shoved the last piece of bacon and the last egg into his mouth so I ran back down to Mums room and she gave me some. “ Time to go to church” my Dad yelled so we all hopped into the car and went to church.

After church we went to the sushi bar to get our lunch! We bought three packets one for Mum and the rest we shared, at the bar we saw a lady making sushi she was so fast it actually looked like it was fast forwarding. Once we got our sushi we carried on home, in the car Mum asked “so what’s for desert?”she asked mysteriously “ cheese cake” we all shouted at once “should we go and get it now?” she asked “sure” Dad answered back. Mum chose a Jamaican chess cake, “I wouldn't of minded a marble chess cake” Mum said while looking at it with delight.

Once we got home Dad said “who's hungry” “me” everyone shouted as they all ran to the table. Once we had got to the table, we started to eat. We all got three pieces of sushi each except for Mum she got a whole box to herself.

After a while it was dinner time, so Dad, Jedida and me went to get our dinner at roast world! We got two packets of family packs and one lamb roast covered in mint gravy. “yummy” Ana said at the table.

That was my 2011 mothers day!

A stroll around and old volcanic cone!

I awoke on a lovely Monday morning, today wasn’t any Monday today was the Queens birthday and it was a holiday! My Mum and Dad decided that we would go for a walk around the Panmure basin. “But I don’t want to walk around the basin” I complained to my Mum “it'll be fun” she said trying to make it sound fun. About one minute latter I walked downstairs to the car waiting for everyone else to come, I saw the skateboard and started playing with it. After I had been on the skateboard for awhile I fell over and landed on the ground. Ana heard the big bang and came down to help me up but instead she came down and hopped in the car Mum heard it and came down and helped me.

Soon it was time to go to the basin. At first I had no idea what the Panmure basin was, hence, I wasn't very excited about it either. When we got there I realised I had been there before and it had an awesome play ground. Maybe I would like it. Before we started Dad taught us some exercises while we were waiting for Mum to get the pram out of the car. After about four minutes we finally started. There were two poles stuck together so I asked “what are those things Dad?” I asked mysteriously “those are exercises” he answered ,“can we do them please?” I replied, “that's were I was just heading” he said. For this exercise we had to climb onto both of the bars walk across them with our hands. I got the second highest out of the whole family and I only walked across two times it’s very, very hard. Then, we started to walk again this time I walked with Mum, Jedida, Dad, Talita and Ana.

Awhile later we spotted the next exercise, I figured out that you lie down on a plank of wood which tilted like a slide and you had to pull yourself up as well as pulling your feet up in the air. There were three levels, the first one I got to do twenty of them, the second one I got to do nineteen and the third one I sadly only got to do one. After that me and Ana went and sat on the edge of the wall that held the water away for awhile, then it was finally time to go to the next exercises. This time we crossed a little cute bridge.

After we had crossed the bridge the pram came running up towards Mum and me so we started running. We turned around and Dad called out “you two run very similar” we turned around and laughed with big smiles on our faces. Not far ahead was a playground and I asked if we could play, Mum responded back with “why not!” and a little laugh at the end. When we got to the playground there was a man and his two children already there, but they headed on to the boat ramp. Me and Ana followed them, they spied a beautiful white kind of bird but it wasn't a dove it was bigger than a dove and it wasn't as white as a dove, we continued our journey. Next we came across our next exercise was “Monkey Bars” Talita shouted out very loudly. She ran up to them but she couldn't reach the bars so “Daddy I need help” she said in complaint, “I’m coming sweetie” he answered back in a sweet voice.

When it was finally my turn Mum then called “time to start of again” “but..but..but” “no buts” so for that exercise I didn't get a turn. After running up a steep hill and seeing a massive house we got to the Panmure Basin bridge, I was pretty scared because this sounds impossible but my eight year old sister Ana was shaking the bridge and it felt like it was going to fall down any minuet. I ran off the bridge and Ana ran off and started laughing at me as well as clapping her hands “you should of seen your face” “ha ha ha very funny” I shot back at her.

Once Mum had got across the blue and white bridge we started jogging again. Next we arrived at another bridge, but this time it was smaller and it was wooden and from this one we could see people fishing and there was fish jumping out of the water it looked really cool. Unfortunately my Mum took two videos and nothing came up she also took two pictures and she just missed them so we carried on jogging. Dad and the girls were far ahead and we finally caught up to them.

There was another play ground, it was Ana’s favourite play ground in the entire world so we stopped and played for a while. Ana and Talita were having a fantastic time but I complained because I couldn't do much on the park so after about five minutes we were heading back on our journey around the basin. Next we arrived at our next exercise it was when you had to jump up onto the planks of wood with one foot at a time really fast, my legs were to sore to do it so I stayed back and watched them. Not long after we left, there was one more exercise but it was on a hill so we didn't go and do it, but then we spotted the white house that we started at “yeah” I shouted “we’re nearly there” Ana shouted. In the park we played a game that we made up a long time ago. After a play on the other park it was time to home again.

What a great memory I have of Queens Birthday Monday 2011.

Anzac Letter

Dear Brother,
Hello brother how are you? I was wondering how you are fighting in the civil war with New Zealand and Tonga? I heard you are safe and sound and that you will be returning home soon with which I am glad about.

At the moment we are still living in the southern part of Auckland and everyone is doing fine. Talita is dancing and Ana as well. Mum and I are training to be a Nurse and a Doctor . Dad is a sports star and he can finally run because the Doctors and nurses at Middlemore Hospital found out a way to fix his achilles. Jedida is also doing well. I miss you very much my dear brother, you are faithful.

love from your sister Malia.

My Science

This term for science we have been experiencing sinking and floating. It was amazing what we found out what sunk and what floated.

A few weeks ago we challenged our self to a sinking and floating challenge. It was amazing what floated and what sunk. We found out that some balls like for example a rugby ball it would float because it has air in it and the air makes it lighter so it floats.

We tested these things:

A spoon(sunk), a piece of bark(sunk), a red ball(floated), some pebbles(sunk), two balls of clay(sunk), a green bead(sunk),and a paper towel(floated).

I wonder what we will discover next week.

Netbook Experience

The first thing on Monday morning we signed a contract as it was the start of the netbook project in our school, as we're are part of the Manaiakalani project. It was an awesome Monday 7th of March for rooms 6 & 7, for both classes it was breathtaking.

The first thing we did after signing the contract was to gently get our net books out of their boxes. The instructions to opening the interesting looking boxes were simple. First we had to carefully turn our boxes around to look at a special number called a Serial Number. Next we had to give our Serial Number to one of the adults walking around the class room, I gave my Serial Number to Miss G. “Next I want you to carefully turn it back around to the other side and then wait till I say the next instruction”

The instructions continued for awhile, but eventually we got to use our netbooks and explore what they could do to help us with our learning.

My Big Day

It was 5.30 in the morning my mum and my baby sister were driving to 'Under Belly' set. On the way to set there was a car in front of us that was going in the same direction as we were, so we followed them there to set. On the way there I said "maybe he's the boy that's going to play my brother". When we got there we found out he was the boy playing my brother! His name was Isac. Next, a man out of the crew told us to hop in a van and they would take us to location one. There was a lady named Rachel who would be there and would look after me and Isac. Once we left, Jedida woke up and she wondered where we were so Mum told her that we were on set. Once we got there, Rachel immediately came to meet us. Then she took us to the wardrobe to get dressed, Isac let me get dressed first. On Monday, I had my wardrobe check, its when you go and someone checks and makes sure that you’ve got a costume for shooting day. I was very surprised at what my first costume was, it was a long sleeved white top and blue jeans with a flower in the corner, then bear feet. Next Rachel took me and Isac to the hair and make up caravan. First, she introduced me and Isac to Tracy. Tracy told me and Isac to sit down on one of the chairs so we did. Isac’s hair and make up was done in a minute. After about half an hour my hair and make up was finally done. My hair was in two pig tails and green ribbons in my pig tails and then my pig tails hung down over my shoulders. For make up was just a little bit of foundation. Next,Tracy called Rachel to come and pick me up. When Rachel came to pick me up she said “ you are looking gorgeous”. Then she took me to where Isac and his mum and my mum and Jedida were sitting. Once I took my seat ,Rachel asked me and Isac if we wanted a hot chocolate,“Yes please” we both said. So then Rachel made us a delicious hot chocolate each. Next, Rachel asked me and Isac to go with her to do some filming at the beach, we both answered back “okay”. “Okay Poppy and Nicolas” Rachel said “this is Holly and Mark they are playing your Mum and Dad”. “Hi Poppy and Nicolas” Holly said “what’s your guys real names?” Mark asked “ my real name is Isac” “and I’m Malia” we said one after another, After that Rachel started driving. When we were driving out the drive way a truck suddenly drove in front of us and we nearly crashed into it! Once we got to set, another lady named Sarah came to get Mark, but Holly went to, to take pictures of him so it was just me, Rachel and Isac left in the car. A few hours later , Rachel bought us out of the car to meet the director and do our scene. First, Rachel took us down to the beach where Mark was, and then Rachel told us what to do, “okay, so you guys have just been fishing for a few hours okay” “okay” we both answered back. “Where is our rods and buckets and things?” I asked “oh it’s coming soon” she answered back. After about three minutes a man came to bring us the props it was a bucket, a little tool bag and two rods and then Rachel gave me and Isac a rod each and told us to take off our boots and shoes so we did. Next Mark told us to tell some jokes and look down or at each other. Next the director Mike shouted “and action” “so do you think we should eat the big one tonight and give Mum the littlest one ah” “ha ha ha ha ha ha ha” we all laughed “ and cut” Mike shouted “good job” Mark said while he walked away “ that was great” Rachel said later on, you guys can go back to the garage now and rest that was your first scene you’ve got four to go” she then said. When we got back to the garage the Mums were there and Jedida ,I asked “how did you guys get here?” they answered back “we got here in a van” “oh okay”. “Malia do you want to play the game of life on my I phone?” Isac asked “okay” I answered back. “Okay you go first” Isac said. Awhile later another lady named Lizzy came and helped us get dressed for our scene. My next costume was my favorite costume! It was a white t- shirt with some little beads and little things like that on it, then I had a little green cardy, and then I had the same jeans except this time I had my jeans rolled down. This time for my scene me and Isac got to play swing ball. Before we filmed the scene it started to rain so me and Isac started to play cards. After we had filmed the scene six times we could finally go back to the garage and rest. When we got back from our scene Lizzy came and helped us get changed back into our first costume. When we got back into our seats some people shouted out “ time for lunch” so all of the crew and mum and Kate walked down to the little bar down the road for a yummy lunch! For lunch I had two pieces of schnitzel two hot potatoes and a little bit of salad. Next mum, me and Jedida walked back to the garage. We waited for a long, long time for our next scene, it was funny because a lady came and got us but it wasn't time for our scene and she made us wait for twenty five minuets and then she finally realised it wasn't time yet for our scene. After about an hour we finally were ready for us to film our next one. This time we were doing it with both of our parents. This time we had to pretend that we were just walking and then we see dad on the beach and mum wants to talk to him so she tells us to go and play on the beach, we filmed this one four times. Next Lizzy took us to the garage and we got changed. My next costume was a white t- shirt, a mini dress, some white eighties shoes and a beautiful blue butterfly necklace with a silver chain. For our next scene we got to play cricket, I had to pretend that I didn't now how to bowl, Mark threw the ball first and I threw the ball second. The first time it hit on the beach and Holly went to get it, when I threw it, it landed in the garden and Holly went to get it. We filmed it once. After that we walked back to the garage and a man in a van came to pick us up so we could go back to base. We got changed signed our selvesaaa out and went home. And that was my big filming day.

The New Class

“Maxine” Miss Oldfield shouted out. Miss Oldfield was handing out the net-book's for Mr Hooker’s class. After a few more other names Miss Oldfield then shouted out “Malia” I said in my mind “but I am not in the new class” then I said it out loud. So Miss Oldfield explained that I was in the new class and that someone had taken my letter to tell my parents that I was in a new class. So with that I took my books my pencil red pen and of course net-book and quickly walked to my new Thursday class room - the library.

When I first walked into the library the year 7 people were working on a maths sheet. My friend in Mr Hooker’s class is Maxine. The first thing we did was get our tout trays. My tout tray number was supposed to be number 7 but someone else took number 7 so instead I took number 8. After getting our tout trays we brought them to the main part of the library.

When I first got in the main part of the library Mr Hooker asked us (year 6) to get out our net-books and carry on with our story. Since I hadn't been there before I had a look at the plan or brain storm they had written out. They were writing about the net-book experience. So after looking at the brainstorm for about 3 minutes I took a seat at the only table left with only boys. It wouldn't of mattered if I sat at either table because they both had only boys because Maxine was sitting at an other table with the year 7 girls and Cathrine was not there.

Once I had logged into my net-book I went into g-edit (our typing page on our net-book on accessories that we can use if we can not login or get into the Internet) I started to write. After about five or six minutes the bell rang for morning tea. At morning tea I was telling both my friends (Siniva and Lezabelle) how cool and awesome the new class was but how sad I was that I was not really in their class any more. Soon the bell rang again and my friends sadly walked me to my classroom.

When I got into the class Mr Hooker asked us to get our library books out and give them to the people at the desk (in the library). I had to ask Mr Hooker if I could get my library book (Under cover Dawn) because I had left it in my bag and my bag was hanging up with room six’s (my normal class) cloakroom. So I ran back to room six. When I got back (from room six) Mr Hooker asked me to give it to the person at the desk (Robertana) so they could return it and I could pick another book. The book I chose was a book called ‘The Rain Girl’.

Next Mr Hooker asked us to go back to our writing on the net-book and carry on our story. After about three more minutes Mr Hooker asked us to get out our strand book (maths book) and then he gave us a maths book called “figure it out”, then he asked us to turn to page two. Next he asked us to draw up exactly the same as the book. So that's what I did. then suddently “ring” the bell rang I sighed. It was time to go back to room six and my friends. After a prayer I ran back to the classroom.
